What’s a zine?
According to Wikipedia, a zine is:
A zine (/ziːn/ ZEEN; short for magazine or fanzine) is a small-circulation self-published work of original or appropriated texts and images, usually reproduced via a copy machine.
I LOVE a zine! I love the idea that they are scrappy, self-published, very DIY. So I decided I was going to create a zine with some of my poems and illustrations for my July market. I organized my poems, I sketched out some illustrations and then I couldn’t decide how I wanted to print it. I wanted it to be something special and sweet. Something nice that people would want to have and keep and open up when they needed a smile or a chuckle. I also did this incredibly last minute and it just didn’t quite pan out the way I planned/hoped.
So here is a digital zine! Fresh for your little eyeballs and ready for viewing! I do have one printed copy that I got from Staples and wasn’t thrilled with (not Staples fault, just poor planning on my end), that will probably just go in my memory box or filed away with other ideas that never quite had their moment.
I loved making this little zine. I adore some of these illustrations (I’ll never not love a worm illustration), and I hope you enjoy these poems as much as I enjoyed writing them. The internet is a lovely thing because you can give yourself permission to create whatever you want and share it with anyone who wants to listen.
Don’t forget to give yourself permission to make what you want.
So, without further ado, I give you….
